A Brief History of HGH
In 1956, scientists first isolated HGH and in 1972, its chemical structure was identified although drug versions were not available. Prior to the 1980s, HGH research was hampered by the fact that scientists were unable to artificially synthesize the compound, which is considered a complex molecule comprised of 191 different amino acids. The only source of the hormone was from human cadavers which was eventually banned by the FDA for human consumption. In time the availability of DNA technology enabled scientists in the early 1980s to manufacture human growth hormone in large quantities. Subsequently, the FDA approved synthetic for human use and experimentation in the late 1980s. Between the years of 1990 and 1992, hundreds of scientific studies were conducted on growth effect on age-related changes in the human body.
Currently, synthetic HGH is available and is used to treat clinical disorders such as growth hormone insufficiency, which causes retarded growth in children and a number of related conditions. The prospect of using it as a youth promoting supplement has surfaced as injectable forms have been used in various places, but not without considerable controversy. In 1985 approximately 3000 people were treated with pituitary derived hormone in the U.S. Currently up to 20,000 people have received HGH replacement therapy.
Several major pharmaceutical companies are currently engaged in research which is attempting to manufacture an FDA approved human growth hormone stimulant. At this writing, the availability of natural formulas designed to accomplish this goal is limited but products are emerging. The bottom line is that the availability to safely elevate the levels of HGH in the human body should be viewed as the best known way to retard the aging process by promoting reactions within natural pathways.
Facts At A Glance: HGH has been available in drug form for clinical applications for the last 15 years, but has been considered a powerful pharmaceutical compound with the possibility of significant side effects.
