    Dumbell Press Empty Dumbell Press

    Post by o2jumper Fri Sep 01, 2017 1:02 am

Just wanted to know if anyone else has this problem using Dbell's for bench. I do not have a workout partner first off and I like using dbells for bench. I am up to 85lbs on the last set and I find that getting into the starting position is extremely difficult and awkward. This is especially true when doing decline. Is there a good technique to get the weights situated going from the sitting postion with weights in hand to laying down without killing yourself? I have tried using my knee to kick up each dumbbell, but that is much harder with the heavier weight. It is one of those mental issues, where you know you can push the weight but you do not want to look like a dumb!@# getting into postion and dropping the weight. Make sense?

I start out by having the dumbells setup in front of me on the floor. I then stand up and pick them up and sit down with them resting on my knees. I then simultaniously kick my knees up while laying back and falling into the start position. I have no problem with this and i dont need a spotter, but it might simply be that you need to get familiar with that movment. I use the 95's and i dont need a spotter for anything.

Bump I do the same, if you feel like your going to injure yourself then you may need to get someone to steady you at the lift off or drop it a few lbs.

Yeah...but tell them to support your elbows instead of grabbing your wrists(i hate when people do that). A little nudge on your elbows with help you push up that first rep.

I follow the same routine as most, resting on my knees but I do one at a time, I have maxed out the weights at my gym with the 140s and everytime I have done it I feel like I am going to fall off the bench every single time! I prefer using the regular bench then after my pecs are exhausted using a much lower weight like 100s and repping them off then, I am alot less scared of injuring myself! Find what works for you or just ask someone to give you a hand putting them in place!

I have no problems and I used 110lbs on my last set. Try putting the dumbbells closer to your chest up higher on the legs when they are resting on your legs( iI rest my chest on the top of the dumbell) and do a tuck and roll backwards just as your back is completely on the bench plant your feet wide on the floor for balance and push up. My brother has success with this as well and he is only 6'1" 169 and uses 90lbs on his last set. It takes practice but try my technique with lighter weight until it feels comfortable. Good luck bro.

Why in the hell hasn't someone designed a resting bar on each side of the bench... Up high so it's easy to lift off and get into position... It could be a stand that will slide next to any bench or desiged right on a bench...

Power hooks by Country Power, Inc. I've got a pair and they work great! You can find them at www.powerhooks.com. No, I'm not affiliated with them, this is an unpaid endorsement.
