How to combat High Blood Pressure

Post by Dr. Steroids on Mon Sep 10, 2018 10:26 am

I wrote a thread bout this subject a while back but cant find it and decided to repost it since I think it will benefit alot of our members.

Supp’s for high blood pressure:

Calcium and magnesium
The minerals calcium and magnesium may be effective only for some people with hypertension. Several studies have shown that calcium may be particularly beneficial for people who are salt sensitive, pregnant women, and African Americans. A diet low in magnesium may raise your blood pressure; supplements or magnesium-rich foods (whole grains, green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, dried peas and beans) may lower it.

Suggested dose:
1,000 mg calcium and 500 mg magnesium a day. Take with food for best absorption. Check with your doctor if you have kidney disease.

Vitamin C
The antioxidant vitamin C may help lower high blood pressure by enlarging blood vessels, according to recent studies in Germany and Italy of intravenous (IV) infusions of the vitamin. Further research is needed to determine whether pills have the same effect. Scientists also speculate that damage caused by free radicals may impair the dilation of blood vessels in patients with hypertension and that the antioxidant powers of vitamin C may help correct this damage. Another recent study in England also found that higher blood levels of vitamin C were correlated with lower systolic and diastolic blood pressures.

Suggested dose:
1,000 mg vitamin C 3 times a day. Take with food. Reduce dose if diarrhea develops.

Coenzyme Q10
A natural substance produced by the body, coenzyme Q10 helps speed up vital metabolic processes. More than a third of people with hypertension are thought to be deficient in this substance. In a 1994 study, more than half of the hypertensive patients who took the supplement were able to discontinue one to three of their antihypertensive medications. A more recent trial in India also found that the substance decreased systolic and diastolic blood pressures.

Suggested dose:
50 mg coenzyme Q10 twice a day. Take with food for best absorption. Rarely, may cause digestive upset.

Flaxseed and Fish Oils
Flaxseed oil and fish oils contain omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to reduce high blood pressure in numerous double-blind studies. Although you can get fish oils in supplement form, an easy way to get them is by eating fatty fish (e.g., mackerel, salmon, or bluefish).

Suggested dose:
Flaxseed oil: 1 tbsp. (14 grams) a day. Take with food to enhance absorption. Keep refrigerated to ensure freshness.

Fish oils: 1,000 mg 3 times a day. Take supplements if you don't eat fish at least twice a week. Keep refrigerated to ensure freshness.

Hawthorn
The herb hawthorn widens arteries by interfering with the action of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which constricts the arteries. Hawthorn also appears to strengthen the heart's pumping action by inhibiting enzymes that weaken the heart muscle.

Suggested dose:
100 to 150 mg hawthorn 3 times a day. Hawthorn can also be taken in tincture form: 1 tsp. 3 times a day. May cause rash or sweating, but appears to be very safe.

Taurine
The amino acid taurine is thought to lower blood pressure by balancing the ratio of sodium to potassium in the blood. It may also regulate the increased nervous system activity that can contribute to high blood pressure.

Suggested dose:
500 mg L-taurine twice a day. Take on an empty stomach. If using longer than a month, add mixed amino acids.

Garlic
Garlic inhibits clot formation by making platelets less likely to clump, and it can help lower cholesterol levels and prevent formation of artery-clogging plaques. There is also some evidence that garlic can decrease blood pressure in individuals who have mild hypertension.

Suggested dose:
500 mg twice a day. Use enteric-coated preparations. Look for garlic pills that provide 4,000 to 5,000 mcg of allicin.

Some others that friends have mentioned that help lower bp:

Nitric Oxide products, Arginine, Citrulline, Celery Seed Extract

Nice info...thanks so much for sharing. Good natural remedies are so much better than antihypertensives if they work for us.

Don't forget one totally natural thing that will help too - if you can spare the calories. Run a little bit. That's why they call it cardio - it's good for the heart, a stronger heart means a slower heart rate and a better blood pressure.

I know you big boys and girls aren't interested in my cardio routines because they work against muscle growth - that's why I'll never have the kind of muscle you have. But we can all have healthy hearts.

Perfect time for such a post. Very valuable info considering i spent last night in the ER with a bp reading of 204 over 110. Not good. Looking for natural remedies to help keep it stabilized. I read that taking an aspirin before bedtime yields great results. I'll add that to the list.

Thanks dafonz

You may need more help than natural remedies can provide with those kind of readings. Have you been monitoring your BP on a regular basis? What is it normally? What does your doctor say?

That had never happenned to me before. In the past I've run thermogenics with no problem but have recently switched to a different thermo that has apparently caused quite a reaction that could have very well been fatal. I had an EKG and a brain scan done per the doctor's request which came back normal. The funny thing is that the readings dropped on their own back down to 158 over 99 before i was given any medical assistance. The doctor was surprised especially with the fact that high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, cholesterol etc..did not run in my family. But i had been displaying a shift in my readings bordering on the higher end since my training has increased in intensity as my weight increased throughout the years. He sent me home without any long term meds. He didn't find any purpose for prescribing them but did recommend i keep a log and keep an eye on it on a daily basis. The diastolic reading tends to border on the higher end for me more often than the systolic. Any thoughts?

I can't take thermogenics or cns stimulants cuz they run my BP up way too high. I am on a lot of BP meds and now my blood pressure is under control but I need to lose weight more than anything else. I am doing 40 min of cardio ed and that is helping too. Also I am pretty old.

Keep a log of your BP for a month or so and see what is going on. And pay particular attention to what you are doing when it goes up. If everything settles down to a near normal level I would think weight loss and regular cardio would do the trick for you. But do see your doctor regularly to be on the safe side.

good luck

I've had this problem since my first time at bat. Hope I can add some value!

All of the above are rock solid. Other things that definitely help:

Cardio (duh!)
Limiting salt (double duh!)
Soy - can raise estrogen levels, but definitely has an effect on BP

Things that might work:
Vitamin D - only if deficient, which can cause hypertension.
Vitamin E
Aminos; Arginine, taurine
Herbs: Hibiscus, snakeroot, onion, reishi, mistletoe

Since I know it's going to happen, I start my anti-hpertension program a month or two before the cycle begins. Herbs and supplements aren't drugs and take a long time to work. Most of the above I don't need to fool with, my personal program is:

Fish oil
Garlic
Supplementary fiber
Calcium & potassium
Cardio

This usually keeps it under control (BP still rises while on), and I keep it up as part of PCT. Usually back to normal within 2-4 weeks of coming off, depending on the substances involved. deca+ long ester T is the worst in my case, which sucks because I really like that mix and a longer than normal cycle.
