Time between sets?

Post by will3638 on Thu May 17, 2018 12:00 am

I have been taking about 3 minutes between sets when doing flat, incline, decline bench, and military press. Squats as well. Other exercises I vary between 1 to 2 minutes between sets.

I typically lift hevy with my last set on compound movements having no more than 6 to 8 reps. stats: 190, 6ft tall, 27 yrs old.

Example flat bench,

15x135
10x185
8x205
8x225
6-8x275

The first two sets are basically warm up sets and I need this due to a shoulder and elbow essue. The question is: am I taking too much time between sets?

Thanks

Yes,,, more time = power lifter .... less time = bodybuilder

Your body will not benefit anymore than it allready has once you've rested 2:30min of rest. I take more rest on compound movements like 2min for squats, deads, etc. And less like 1:30min for bicep exercises, shoulder press, etc. Power movements will require more time to recover and muscle specific exercises require less time to get ready for the next set.

Thanks, I felt that was probably the case. It's good to hear, especially since it can take forever to finish a workout when taking 3 min between every set.
